Voters won’t know the cost of Chicago’s DNC until right before the election, limiting transparency
In an article by WBEZ, RFI ED Alisa Kaplan highlighted the limited transparency of donations to the host committee for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August. She said, “Disclosure rules help keep voters informed and keep corruption at bay. At least here we’ll eventually learn who donated and how much, but it will likely be too late for voters to really process it before Election Day. That’s why donors and parties want to keep this information secret for as long as possible.”
Kaplan supports real-time transparency so voters can know “exactly where money is coming from,” meaning that “ they can be more confident that money isn’t used to extract official favors from officials or candidates.”
