“When West Aurora School District 129 Superintendent Jeff Craig was traveling between Iowa and Aurora shortly after he was hired, the school district picked up the tab for boarding his dogs.
West Aurora spent at least $1,288 to board Sunny and Sam several times over three months, on top of other travel and moving expenses, documents show. At the time, Craig was commuting from Iowa to Aurora, often for days at a time, while he wrapped up work in his former school district and began attending events, hiring administrators and preparing to move to his new district.
Craig said he and his wife had lived in a rural part of Iowa near Des Moines for five months, and they weren’t able to ask someone to take care of the Boston terriers when his wife traveled with him to Aurora to attend district events or look for a new house.”
