Zombie state boards and commissions undermine public trust
In a recent publication by the Chicago Tribune’s Editorial Board, RFI ED Alisa Kaplan voiced frustration with Illinois’ continued struggle to fill vacant positions on state boards. According to one study, it was found that over 100 state boards in Illinois were inactive, and 28% of active boards failed to meet the minimum number of times.
Among the many issues with this, Kaplan states that it undermines the public’s trust “to have a bunch of commissions that are supposed to be doing a job for them and aren’t.”
